ROSS’ TOP 40 ALBUMS OF 2011

#11
WYE OAK Civilian
Song-by-Song Rating: 7.30 (15th)
Last.fm Plays: 218 (8th)
Featured Song: “Civilian”

Wye Oak packs a ton of punch considering there are only two members of the band. Civilian is their most high-profile album to date and it features blistering guitar riffs from frontwoman Jess Wasner and propulsive drumming from Andy Stack.

The album can feel a little over-produced at time, but there’s just so much goodness packed into it.

Standout Tracks: “The Altar”, “Dogs Eyes”, “Civilian”, “Plains” and “Hot As Day”

WYE OAK “Civilian”

There are plenty of guy-girl duos out there, but Wye Oak seems to be the band in that group with the most full-bodied sound.

I wish they’d let some of their songs rock out a little more, but I still like them a lot.

WYE OAK “My Creator”

Wye Oak is a guy-girl duo that actually precedes the current explosion of guy-girl duos on the indie rock scene. They make really sweeping, beautiful rock music and released a great EP this year, My Neighbor/My Creator.
